We understand it can be confusing (and even a little concerning) to see what looks like 2 donation charges. Here’s what might be happening!

⏸️ Temporary Authorization Hold
When you start a new recurring gift (or make changes to an existing one), your bank may place a temporary hold on your account. This can sometimes look like:
- 💳 A second charge on your scheduled donation date
- 🗓️ A pending transaction that appears a little early
Will I Still Be Charged Twice?
No. While it might seem like you've been charged more than once, pending holds usually do not go through. In most cases, only one donation is actually processed. 🏦
- ⏳ Banks place these holds as part of their fraud protection process. They typically release them once your payment method and available funds are verified.
- 📞 If it's still showing after 5 business days, please contact your bank or card issuer for assistance.
⏪ Previous Giving Platform
If the 2 charges have slightly different descriptions (even in capitalization), or if one does not appear as “pending,” you may still have an active recurring gift set up through your nonprofit’s previous giving platform. You can check by following the steps here! 📖
Requesting a Refund
- 💬 To request a refund for the duplicate donation, please reach out to your nonprofit directly. This should be issued through their previous giving platform (like Church Center, Pushpay, etc.)
